Sir Norman Lamb Coalition

Focus Group Fund

Grants of £500 are available to Coalition members to run focus groups for the young people they work with. The young people will take part in an important conversation about what matters to them and what it is like to live and grow up in Norfolk.

The outcomes of the focus groups will help to guide the priority areas for the next round of the Sir Norman Lamb Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.

Sir Norman Lamb and Norfolk Community Foundation have established an innovative Coalition of Norfolk-based VCSE organisations working with children and young people to help strengthen their existing services and encourage and promote innovation to enrich our children and young people’s lives.

The aim of this Fund is for Coalition members to bring together young people to host conversations and gather insight into what is important to them. The information gathered from the focus group will help to shape the priorities and future of the Sir Norman Lamb Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund.

Ideally, you will have existing activities or group sessions underway between the start of June and end of August which will provide an opportunity for you to have this focus group conversation.

About the Fund

  • Focus groups should ideally consist of 5-10 participants. At the point of applying, we want to see that you already have established connections with the people who will form your focus group. Please note: you can only apply once per organisation.
  • Training on how to get the most out of your focus group will be provided via Zoom on Wednesday 19th of June (11am-12pm). It is strongly advised that a representative for your organisation attends this training. The session will also be recorded.
  • We will also provide discussion points to help structure the focus group, for example ‘What is important to you as a young person living in Norfolk? What could be improved in your local area?’
  • Focus Groups can be led by young people, staff or volunteers. We may prioritise applications from groups who have involved young people in the planning.
  • Funding can be used for any costs incurred in running the focus group, including core costs, room hire, volunteer and staff costs, refreshments, travel expenses, resources and incentives for participants.
  • We ask that all focus groups are audio recorded or detailed feedback of the focus group are provided in written form using the templates provided. And, of course we still encourage creative methods for collecting data alongside this (e.g. photos, sticky notes or flipcharts).
  • Focus groups will need to take place and have the information you have gathered sent to NCF by 5pm on Friday 30th August 2024.

Please note applications for this fund are only being accepted from current members of the Sir Norman Lamb Coalition.
