Stronger Families

Building bonds, strengthening futures.

There are an estimated 30,000 children living in low-income families in Norfolk, which can have long term impacts on their health, attainment and aspirations. Many of these children growing up in poverty live in a family where at least one person works. With statutory services continuing to shrink, community provision is increasingly called upon to fill the gaps.

Creating supportive environments where children and their families can access the resources they need to overcome challenges, giving them the tools and opportunities to succeed. To help build brighter futures for families across Norfolk, we’ve been supporting projects establishing and expanding advice and support hubs in Norfolk, providing practical household support for families with a child suffering with a life threatening and limiting condition, and trying to break the cycle of violent youth crime and exclusions.

From getting every child online during the Covid-19 lockdown to supporting projects working with young carers, working with adults and children experiencing abuse, and providing information, advice and advocacy services to local BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) communities, we are working to build stronger families – and a stronger Norfolk.

We need your help to take action and continue to fund these local projects helping families across Norfolk to thrive.

“The family had endured a traumatic event, losing one of their twins shortly after birth. The mum felt she was ready to attend a baby support group and brought her surviving twin to The Hamlet’s nurture group, who provided her with a supportive environment and allowed her to connect with other families. Through shared experiences and mutual understanding, she found confidence in building friendships and confiding in her peers.”

“A family supported by Home-Start Norfolk received a tablet for their daughter Belinda, aged 5 who has been diagnosed with autism. Prior to receiving the tablet, Belinda had to try and access her classroom chats using her mum’s mobile phone which didn’t make for a good learning environment. It has significantly impacted on the whole family by reducing the anxiety and stress of the situation and Belinda is benefitting from regular daily learning routines.”

“If we want to break the cycle of poverty and all that it brings, we must invest in supporting our most vulnerable families in Norfolk. Trusted community groups and local charities are making a real difference here but they need more funding and support.”
