The answer to building Skills for Norfolk lies in our communities.

As the new term begins, we’re excited to share the latest edition of our Spark report. At a time when Norfolk’s employment landscape is undergoing exciting change, from the rise of green energy to the growth of digital innovation, this issue focuses on a vital question: how can every community benefit from new opportunities? The report shows how by working together, we can help communities and individuals turn their ideas into reality, building the skills, confidence and support they need to succeed.

We invite you to explore the publication online and discover the stories of determination, collaboration and impact taking place across our county. If what you read sparks ideas, questions or a desire to get involved, we would love to hear from you. Together, we can make sure no one is left behind as Norfolk moves forward.

Beyond the Spark…

Norfolk Community Foundation has been helping people and communities build skills for success for over 20 years. Take a deeper look at some of the stories in our latest Spark.

Unlocking Opportunity in West Norfolk

In West Norfolk, local people and community organisations are working every day to create brighter futures for young people. Discover how we’re helping those with a deep knowledge of their community’s strengths and challenges to create innovative programmes that unlock opportunity, foster confidence, and help young people chart their own paths to employment.

Building a Better Future with Businesses

Your read about it in the Spark, now see the impact the STEM Club at Alderman Peel is having on their students! With funding from Dudgeon Offshore Wind farm, their Club has grown and is competing alongside some of the best schools in the county. From constructing code to building electric cars, this film shows impact our funding is having in this rural community.

Working Together to Solve the Care Crisis

Caring for Norfolk’s ageing population isn’t rocket science. Delivered with East Coast College, our Apollo programme explored community solutions to countering the caring crisis, moving people into caring careers while supporting those already in the sector. Upskilling Through Volunteering

Across the Nourishing Norfolk Network, volunteers play a crucial role. In any given week, the network boasts over 300 volunteers who collectively contribute more than 1,000 hours of their time! From stocking shelves and working tills to offering emotional support and connecting individuals with additional resources, their presence transforms simple social supermarkets into vital community hubs.

As well as finding personal enjoyment through volunteering, volunteers have found personal growth and opportunities to pursue broader life goals. Confidence can be a major barrier for many, but they have built their self-worth and confidence through volunteering at food hubs.

Support our Skills for Norfolk Mission

Our Spark report shows local charities are perfectly positioned to address the skills shortage, equipping young people for success and tackling barriers to employment. Building skills and aspirations for people of all ages helps to enrich our lives and enable us to flourish at work, at home and in the community. Overcoming obstacles to engage with education and move towards employment can transform lives, particularly for those who face personal challenges and struggle to thrive in mainstream settings.

You can help us take action and fund these local projects tackling many of the barriers to employment and giving our young people the confidence and skills they need to make the most of future opportunities by making a donation today.
