Keeping young people safe and well
Did you know…
The Norfolk Flourish survey, completed by 9,347 children and young people across the county, gives us an important snapshot of how young people are feeling. It showed that mental wellbeing has declined year-on-year since 2017. Among those reporting low mental wellbeing, almost 6 in 10 say they never like to talk about their feelings.
What’s the solution?
Early intervention is key to prevent deterioration in a young person’s mental wellbeing – with community groups possessing a unique ability to respond flexibly and responsively to emerging challenges, ensuring timely and relevant support. By providing support in a safe place, from people they can trust, close to home, we can help young people manage their mental health proactively in their community whilst also reducing the pressure on local mental health services.
How are we helping?
Alongside funding innovative projects, we focus on maintaining and enhancing existing services to ensure continuous support for young people and creating environments where they can thrive. We’re doing this by:
- Co-ordinating an innovative and impactful network – the Healthy Young Minds Coalition – combining direct funding, training, and community collaboration to address immediate needs and promote long-term wellbeing for young people.
- Partnering with statutory partners to combine resources and target support to where it can have the most impact.
