“The kids are getting a lot out of it. We are learning about the need to plant in the right place and also about vegetables we would enjoy best.”

“It’s very reassuring having a sanctuary like this in the city centre, a place open to all to learn, share and connect with the beauty and productivity of nature.”

“Being outside in a friendly supportive environment has greatly helped my mental health and self-esteem.”

Did you know…

Climate change is already affecting communities across Norfolk.

  • Communities are increasingly seeing the impacts of flooding, drought and changes to local landscape.
  • Around 450 village halls across Norfolk play a vital role in local communities, but many are older buildings that can be costly to run. Only 16% consider themselves energy efficient, leaving most facing high and rising energy bills
  • Norfolk is home to 23 species of national importance, some of which are critically endangered.

Together, these pressures are placing strain on community spaces, local environments and the people who rely on them.

What’s the solution?

Climate change can feel like a big, distant problem. But when people have the tools, funding and support to act, they can take small, practical steps that add up, improving local spaces, reducing costs and helping nature recover.

By supporting community-led action, we can create greener places to live, reduce costs for community spaces and bring people together to feel empowered to take part in shaping their local environment.

How are we helping?

We are supporting practical, local action on climate change. Together with donors, partners and local businesses, we fund and support community-led projects that protect the environment while strengthening local communities. We are currently focusing on work that:

  • Helps communities grow food and support sustainable living
  • Reduces energy use and costs in community buildings, including village halls
  • Creates and improves green and natural spaces for people and wildlife
  • Supports activities that bring people together through nature, helping reduce isolation
