Youth Mental Health Mission Renamed

Introducing Healthy Young Minds

Same Mission, New Name.

We are excited to share that our mission, previously known as Young People’s Mental Health, is now called Healthy Young Minds. This change reflects a renewed focus on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people across Norfolk, while continuing the work that has made such a difference over the past five years.

This area of work started in 2019 with the creation of the Sir Norman Lamb Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, launched in partnership with Sir Norman Lamb. The fund was established to provide early intervention and community-based support for young people facing mental health challenges. Building on this foundation, we created the Sir Norman Lamb Coalition for Young People, bringing together voluntary, community, and social enterprise organisations across Norfolk.

United under our Healthy Young Minds mission, the fund and coalition will now be known as the Healthy Young Minds Coalition and the Healthy Young Minds Fund.

Honouring the Legacy of Sir Norman Lamb

Sir Norman Lamb wanted to unlock change in Norfolk, and he began by working with us to ask community groups what they needed. He provided the ambition and we provided the framework, and together we recognised how meaningful change could be made locally.

We founded the coalition with a clear vision: to bring together community organisations to create safe, trusted spaces and provide early intervention for young people. Sir Norman’s leadership and commitment have shaped everything we have achieved so far. While he has now transitioned from an active role in the Coalition and Fund, his legacy remains at the heart of our work, carried forward by the Healthy Young Minds Coalition with energy and determination.

Celebrating Five Years of Impact

This year marks five years since the coalition was established. In that time, we have grown to include 60 member organisations, invested over £1 million in community-led mental health initiatives, and supported thousands of young people across Norfolk. These achievements are a testament to the power of collaboration and the dedication of every member organisation.

Why Change Matters

Young people’s needs are constantly evolving. The challenges they face today are not the same as those they faced five years ago. Our Missions must adapt to remain relevant and effective. By refreshing our identity and reaffirming our purpose, we ensure that the Mission, Coalition and Fund continue to meet the needs of young people in a changing world.

Working together through the Healthy Young Minds Coalition means we can share knowledge, pool resources, and respond quickly to emerging issues. It means we can innovate, learn from each other, and amplify our collective impact. This collaborative approach is what makes our Mission strong and sustainable.

Looking Ahead

The name may be new, but our commitment remains the same: to keep young people safe and well, and to provide the support they need before they reach crisis point. Thank you to every organisation that has been part of this journey so far. Together, we will continue to make a difference.

Supporting change

Many people across Norfolk recognise the challenges facing our communities, and many are taking action. Our work is backed by individuals through legacies and donations, by fundraisers such as former High Sheriff Krishna Sethia who hosted a ‘Call My Wine Bluff’ evening, and by musical icons BLAKE through the Rose Berney Memorial Fund. This work is also recognised and supported by businesses like Handelsbanken, alongside charitable trusts and local statutory partners, including the Norfolk PCC and Norfolk County Council.
