Healthy Young Minds Fund

Funding available

The Healthy Young Minds Fund is open only to members of the Healthy Young Minds Coalition (previously known as the Sir Norman Lamb Mental Health and Wellbeing Coalition)

The programme is focused on strengthening and enhancing community youth provision to support the mental wellbeing and resilience of children and young people in Norfolk. This year the priority for the fund has been determined by the Flourish 2024 survey findings, the survey was completed by 9,347 Norfolk children and young people. Mental wellbeing was one of the key areas that pupils showed a decline from the previous Flourishing survey in 2017:

  • Just over 1 in 10 pupils report high mental wellbeing
  • Among pupils reporting low mental wellbeing almost 6 in 10 report never liking to talk about their feelings
  • Almost 1 in 4 report that they never sleep well
  • Among pupils identifying as having SEND almost half report worrying quite a lot or a lot about their mental health.

If you wish to find out more about the benefits of membership and how to join, you can read more here.

Grants of up to £6,000 are available for projects offering therapeutic support for children and young people up to the age of 25.

The outcomes that we wish to see as a result of the funding are:
  • Improved mental health and wellbeing for children and young people
  • Children and young people are enabled to better understand and look after their own mental health and wellbeing
  • Children and young people feel more supported to recognise mental health issues and know where to go for help
  • Increased number of children and young people are appropriately supported by the right services at the right time
  • Children and young people are better supported through transitions, such as going to high school, leaving school and entering employment
  • Young people are more confident in developing their independence and resilience
  • An increase in young people accessing education, training and skills development opportunities
  • Increased knowledge and awareness within communities to support health and wellbeing.
This funding may be right for you if:
  • You are a member of the Healthy Young Minds Coalition (previously the Sir Norman Lamb Mental Health and Wellbeing Coalition).
  • Your activity addresses the fund priority area.
  • You are seeking project costs or costs relating to the ongoing needs of your group (i.e. core costs). Requests can include small ‘portable’ capital items and equipment to aid the delivery of activities e.g. IT equipment, sports or arts materials, etc.
  • You are willing to contribute to an evaluation process.
This funding is NOT right for you if:
  • You are not a member of the Healthy Young Minds Coalition
  • Your activity does not address the fund priority area.
  • You are looking for large capital (building) costs.
  • New members of the Coalition are less likely to be funded in their first year of membership.

Schools-based Projects

Many Coalition members have longstanding relationships with schools in their area, and we know these partnerships can be a great pathway to engage and support young people.

However, there are some schools-based projects this funding is not able to support.

The Fund can support:
  • Projects delivered in school to support pupils outside of school hours and where alternative venues are not easily accessible (e.g. after school youth groups or activities).
The Fund cannot support:
  • Schools-based projects where the project has previously been funded by the school.
  • Short term or new schools-based projects where the aspiration is to seek future funding from the school to sustain the project.
