Community Food Spaces Capital Fund

The Community Food Spaces Capital Fund provides small capital grants to strengthen community food provision and respond to rising need among vulnerable or economically disadvantaged people in Norfolk.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to improve or upgrade spaces, equipment and infrastructure that enable access to affordable food and shared food activities.
About the Fund

Our insight shows that demand for affordable food is continuing to rise. Over the past five years, our work with the Nourishing Norfolk Network has enabled more than 45,000 people to access affordable food in their communities. Evidence from this work shows that small, targeted capital investments can unlock immediate impact, increasing capacity and improving dignity in food provision.

This Fund responds directly to this need, while also building learning to inform the future development of the Nourishing Norfolk mission. Funding has been enabled through a range of local and national funders.

This Fund aims to:

  • Strengthen community food infrastructure in Norfolk
  • Enable organisations to expand or improve access to affordable food
  • Improve the safety, dignity and effectiveness of food provision spaces
  • Support longer term organisational resilience

Funding can support:

  • Small capital items such as furniture, storage and equipment
  • Building and refurbishment costs. If funding would contribute to a larger capital project, the proposal must demonstrate that permissions and other fundraising have been considered.

Please note that funding cannot support operational or activity costs.

Who can apply?

  • Voluntary, Community or Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations offering community food provision in Norfolk for people facing economic or social barriers. This includes but is not limited to, community pantries, clubs, shops, larders, social supermarkets, community meals, and shared food activities that reduce isolation and improve access to nutritious food.
  • VCSE organisations looking to establish a more permanent community food offer may also apply. Applicants must demonstrate strong existing links to the community, evidence of local need for food provision, and how the grant will help them achieve this. If the fund is oversubscribed, organisations with established food offers may be prioritised.

All applicants should check they meet NCF’s general eligibility criteria.
