Norfolk Superheroes Raise Over £233k in 2026

Norfolk Superhero Challenge returns for a second year to help children get active in Norfolk

Once again, Burnham Overy Staithe in North Norfolk played host to the Norfolk Superhero Challenge. The exciting atmosphere and community spirit of the 210 determined participants was matched only by their superhuman fundraising effort, raising over £233,000 to help children across Norfolk get active.

We are grateful to every single competitor who gave it their all on the course, and to the 120 incredible Pink Lady volunteers who supported the event with their tireless enthusiasm. From start to finish, this was a celebration of teamwork, endurance and community, all in aid of a vital cause.

Our ambitious three-year partnership with the Norfolk Superhero Challenge is dedicated to transforming the lives of local children and young people. We are laying the foundations for A Better Childhood, a core mission of the Foundation that ensures children across Norfolk have the opportunities they need to grow and succeed. Through the Norfolk Superhero Fund, we are connecting young people with opportunities to get active in their communities.

In 2025, the first round of funding through the Norfolk Superhero Fund saw:

  • Almost £160,000 distributed
  • 25 projects supported across Norfolk
  • More than 800 children and young people taking part in activities so far

These projects are led by local groups who understand their communities. They are removing barriers to activity, whether that is cost, confidence, access or opportunity.

Our impact so far…

Swan Youth Project

Thanks to the Norfolk Superhero Fund, Swan Youth Project in Downham Market was able to fund a professional sports coach at their weekly drop-in sessions for younger children.

One young person first attended a drop-in sports session funded through the programme. The coach quickly recognised his natural football ability.

At the time, he was facing pressures at home and had limited opportunities to take part in sport. Through ongoing support, he joined a local football group. He is now building confidence, friendships and skills.

Without that first session, the opportunity to develop his talent may never have existed.

Norfolk Hoopstars CIC

Norfolk Superhero funding enabled Norfolk Hoopstars CIC to provide 25 bursary places for young people to take part in weekly basketball training. With the rise in the cost of living, many families are having to scale back on valuable activities that keep their children fit and well. This funding has helped remove financial barriers for families, keeping children, especially girls, involved in the sport for longer.

For those involved, the impact goes beyond a love of sport. It is about progress, routine and a sense of achievement.

As one participant shared: “I think we train at such a high intensity that it builds into our playing style. It makes us all feel like we have succeeded in something. Every training we learn something new.”

The Norfolk Superhero Panel in 2025

The Norfolk Superhero Fund continues to grow. This October, the decision-making panel will come together again to review new applications and direct funding to the next round of projects.

This is a key part of what makes the programme strong. Funding decisions are shaped by people who are directly engaged in the process, working together to focus support where it will make the greatest difference.

With each round, more children across Norfolk will have the chance to be active, feel included and build positive connections in their communities.
