BLAKE’s Summer Prom Concert raises vital funds for mental health and suicide prevention.
Hundreds of people came together on Saturday 11th June for an unmissable evening of live music with BRIT Award winning vocal group BLAKE
The concert was held in aid of The Rose Berney Memorial Fund and helped to raise over £30,000 for mental health and suicide prevention in Norfolk. Already, some of this funding has supported the work of the Sir Norman Lamb Coalition for Young People, a network of voluntary, community or social enterprise (VCSE) organisations working with children and young people in Norfolk to support their mental health and wellbeing, and YANA who provide help for those involved in farming and other rural businesses affected by stress and depression.

“In 2005 my sister Rose took her own life after a long and difficult battle with her mental health. Her journey and death highlighted the inadequate support in Norfolk for those with mental health issues and since her death, I am very sad to say things have not improved. We established The Rose Berney Memorial Fund to raise money to help some of the brilliant organisations working hard to support those in need. This concert – Last Night of the Proms at Bracon Hall performed by Classical Brit Award winning group BLAKE – is not only about raising much needed money but also to help raise awareness of the vital importance of mental health support and suicide prevention.”

Making a difference to mental health and suicide prevention
Proceeds from ticket sales have already started being distributed out to help support a range of local charities and community groups working in mental health and suicide prevention. So far they have supported the following:
The Sir Norman Lamb Coalition for Young People was established as a network of Norfolk-based VCSE organisations working with children and young people to help strengthen their existing services and encourage and promote innovation to enrich our children and young people’s lives. By providing access to resources and opportunities, sharing good practice, raising the profile of the work that groups do, and linking up with larger countywide and national networks, the Coalition enables groups to rise up and respond to the issues facing our young people. Supported by the Sir Norman Lamb Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, over 50 groups from the length and breadth of Norfolk have joined the Coalition, receiving over £250,000 worth of support including direct funding and training.
Ticket proceeds have also helped support YANA, a registered charity that promotes mental health awareness amongst those involved in farming and other rural businesses in Norfolk. Farming or working in the countryside is usually a good way of life but it is a demanding and stressful occupation, and so it’s not surprising that many people involved with agriculture can feel isolated, depressed or unable to cope as well as normal. YANA work to provide confidential support and counselling, build understanding of mental health and invest in Mental Health First Aid training and suicide prevention.
