South Creake Play Area Fundraising Committee has been awarded a grant of £1,000 to complete the funding required to develop a new play area for the families of South Creake and the surrounding area. South Creake, like so many of Norfolk’s rural communities, has seen many of its public amenities close down in recent years. It’s shop, post office and school have all closed in recent years, leaving only the public house for community socialisation. This has left a severe lack of communal spaces for local families to come together and socialise, so this new play area for the young people of the area was essential to maintain the vibrancy of the village.

The play area will form the focal point of the village and will serve as a venue for village fairs and events. It is particularly important in Norfolk’s rural communities that local young people have leisure facilities to keep them occupied and to provide a safe place where they can meet their friends. Norfolk Community Foundation is happy to have enabled this in one of our rural communities.

The Fundraising Committee held meetings with local young people to establish what they felt was needed in the area, and from there the play area was designed and developed. Amazingly, the committee had managed to raise all but £1,000 of the £30,000 required to complete this project and were running out of funders to approach. Norfolk Community Foundation’s grants panel were particularly impressed with what the volunteers had managed to achieve in just six short months
