Five Norfolk charities received a share of a £25,000 fund which has been donated by Norfolk 100 members at an evening organised by the Norfolk Community Foundation on 10 September 2013. The audience also made personal pledges from their own funds which brought the amount shared by the charities to over £30,000.
Before being interviewed on the night, each group went through a rigorous selection procedure which began with an assessment of initial applications from which 10 charities were shortlisted by an external panel. This was then followed by a public vote at the Royal Norfolk Show in June.
The charities who were awarded funding on the evening were Sing Your Heart Out, who run singing workshops for mental wellbeing, West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled, who provide riding activities for children and adults with disabilities, Connects & Co, supporting young carers aged 5 – 25 through a range of respite activities and learning opportunities, Kandoo Club, helping children with physical and mental disabilities in the King’s Lynn area to enjoy sports and Home-start Great Yarmouth, supporting disadvantaged families with young children.
Since its creation five years ago, the Norfolk 100, which includes local donors and philanthropists, has made grant awards of over £260,000 supporting over 100 groups, whilst at the same time helping to grow an Endowment which now totals over £288,000, allowing the Foundation to continue its grant making long into the future.
