Citizens Advice North Norfolk provides a free, independent, confidential and impartial information and advice service for the public. £3,040 will help the Fakenham Citizen’s Advice Bureau to purchase ten new computers including the necessary software. The grant will benefit an estimated 2,500 people who approach the bureau for advice on a wide range of issues including benefits, debt, housing, employment rights and discrimination. The charity will provide 50% of the required funding for these purchases
Hebron Trust is a registered charity based in Norwich that provides specialised residential care for women with a life threatening addiction to drugs or alcohol to help overcome that addiction and stay rehabilitated. £2,000 will help cover the sessional costs of the Recovery Programme work. The programme focuses on self-help techniques, one-to-one counselling, life stories, individual work and group therapy. This prepares clients for re-entry to the community, with regained confidence, independence and developed life skills.
Hub Community Project provides facilities for recreation and leisure for the socially disadvantaged in Wymondham. A grant of £2,000 will contribute to the provision of an exciting youth project for children aged 11 to 13. A number of activity sessions will be offered taking the form of a six week course; including Life Skills, Drama & Creative Arts, Sport, Music, Movie Making, Adventure, Beauty and Environment.
Kickstart is a Dereham based project that provides low cost motor scooter rental to help people access employment opportunities. A grant of £5,000 will contribute to a six month pilot project which extends the Kickstart service to job seekers thereby removing a key barrier to seeking employment. The grant will fund compulsory moped and scooter training, the provision of safety equipment, bike servicing and insurance.
Litcham Youth Project is a voluntary group that provides a weekly youth club for 10-19 year olds in Litcham and the surrounding rural Breckland villages. £1,512 will help this youth project to continue into the foreseeable future. The project has recently changed its venue to the village hall and the grant will contribute to hall hire and new equipment for the increasing number of young people and children who are now attending.
Marham Parish Council oversees the village budget, keeps the local community involved in the area and aims to enhance village life. A grant of £5,500 will help the Parish Council to build a Multi-Use Games Area and provide more play equipment for younger children. The project is a response to representations from 250 local residents requesting more recreational opportunities for young people.
Move on East is a registered charity that supports former offenders or those on the periphery of offending to find accommodation, acquire life skills, training and employment to improve the quality of their life and to prevent re-occurrence of criminal activity. This grant of £1,490 will support and broaden the training given to newly recruited mentors living in the Broadland area. The training will include first aid, safe use of the internet, drugs alcohol awareness and children's advocacy.
Norwich Diocesan Play Van operates a mobile facility using a trailer to transport toys and equipment to run parent, baby and toddler groups in isolated rural communities. The £5,000 grant awarded will contribute to the ongoing running costs of the project including updating and renewing toys and equipment, the salary of a part-time Development Worker, venue costs and staff and volunteer travel expenses. Since being founded in 2000, the charity has worked in more than 30 different villages and currently operates in Binham, Baconsthorpe, Walsingham and Hindringham.
