Total Ensemble Theatre Company
Total Ensemble Theatre Company provides inclusive drama opportunities open to those with and without special needs and/or disabilities.
It comprises an integrated membership of experienced professionals, first timers of all ages and performers that may need assistance with mobility, communication, behaviour or social development. The group has close links with the renowned London theatre company Chickenshed, where its artistic director worked as an actor and practitioner. There are currently 30 members, primarily aged 11-25, with many affected by issues such as eating disorders, addiction, disability, Down’s syndrome and autism. In many cases the Company devises its own material to ensure it is fully inclusive, and every member takes an equal role which provides the opportunity to play to his or her strengths.
In 2013 the Red Nose Day Community Cash Fund awarded a grant of £1,000 to help the group develop a new, original piece of theatre entitled ‘Dignity’ which was performed as part of the Hostry Festival in Norwich. The theatre holds open castings for its work, plus workshops and taster sessions.
