How we can Help Your Clients

Professional Advisors in the legal, accounting and financial sectors are often in a position to advise their clients about charitable giving.

Norfolk Community Foundation is a one-stop vehicle for meeting your clients' charitable and financial objectives. We add our expertise to yours to ensure your client makes educated decisions while selecting from a full spectrum of options.

  1. Help you to include philanthropy in the range of options available to your clients
Research shows that wealthy people are eager to learn more about charitable giving from professional advisors. Philanthropy can play a pivotal role in estate planning and can add an important element to the service you offer.

  2. It's Timely
Each change in your client's financial or family circumstances can be an opportunity to discuss philanthropy. By creating a charitable fund, you can help your clients avoid capital gains taxes and inheritance tax whilst benefiting their community as a whole.
Opportunities for presenting a charitable option include:-

    • Creating an estate plan
    • Approaching retirement
    • Disposing of long-term capital gain property
    • Minimising the tax impact of a financial windfall
    • Ownership transitions in closely held companies
    • Managing an inheritance

  3. Professional Grant Maker
We are a professional grant maker who understands the needs of the local community. We can target money precisely, in terms of both geographical area and area of interest. Groups are assessed before grants are made and monitored to ensure donations are not wasted.

  4. Service to Donors
We seek to match donor interests with community needs and offer donors the opportunity to get involved with the grant making process. Donors have the opportunity to reach small local groups that might otherwise be overlooked. Donors can re-direct requests for support from local charities to Norfolk Community Foundation who will respond appropriately. We aim to help all sections of the community. Whatever your client's charitable interests are we can assist them in achieving their goals.

  5. Excellent Knowledge
Norfolk Community Foundation has a detailed knowledge and experience of the local voluntary sector which allows us to target our grant making to address the most pressing problems and issues.

  6. Transfer of Charitable Trusts
Norfolk Community Foundation can provide the ideal solution for existing charitable trusts where:

    • The original charitable objectives have been fulfilled
    • Income generated is no longer sufficient to continue grant making
    • Administration has become too time consuming
    • Trustees wish to pass on the responsibility

In these circumstances the foundation can take on the management of long established charitable trusts by recreating them as funds within Norfolk Community Foundation.

  7. Preserve Anonymity
We respect the requests of all our donors. If a donor wants to remain anonymous then a specifically named fund can preserve their identity without minimising the effectiveness of the grants.

  8. A flexible alternative to a charitable trust
Each fund is individually named and has defined criteria. The criteria for donations are defined by the donor. The fund has a dedicated manager who will aim to help the fund achieve its goals as efficiently as possible. The named fund will come under the charitable status of Norfolk Community Foundation and be ultimately governed by our board of governors. This means your clients will not need to set up their own set of trustees and adherence to charitable law will be our responsibility. The minimum sum for setting up a charitable trust with Norfolk Community Foundation is £25,000; however donations to set up the fund can be made over a number of years.

  9. For Companies
Your client's company can achieve its corporate charitable objectives through targeted grants to local groups, where a small amount of money can make a significant difference. A named fund aids the promotion of the corporate brand, while involving staff in the grant making process can improve morale and add value to jobs.
We have strong relationships with local press and will seek to maximise the PR value for your client’s charitable donation.

  10. Giving Back to the local community
Your clients have the opportunity to make a real difference to life in Norfolk and in partnership with Norfolk Community Foundation you can help them achieve their charitable aims in an effective and efficient way.
