OPEN FOR APPLICATIONS
We are pleased to advise that Scira Offshore Energy Ltd has launched the ‘Sheringham Shoal Community Fund’ to support mainly environmental or sustainability-focussed projects and initiatives from community groups, charities, educational institutions and parish and town councils in North Norfolk. In its first year £50,000 will be set aside, of which £25,000 will be available for grant giving and the remainder placed in an endowment to provide future support. In 2011 the total will increase to £100,000, with half available for grant giving and the remainder as endowment and from 2012, to coincide with the completion of the wind farm, the full amount will be available solely for grants.
In its first grant round in June 2010, the fund will award £12,500. The Fund is about trying to make a difference and will support a small number of projects proposed by groups inspired to do something new and positive in their community. The projects should focus on one or more of the following objectives:
· Contribute to reducing climate change.
· Assist the sustainability of North Norfolk communities.
· Have a marine environment or marine safety focus.
· Promote environmental sensitivity, sustainability or the benefits of renewable energy.
· Contribute to education or employment in the renewable energy industry or related arenas through access to courses and community activities.
Half of the funding will be allocated for Wells-next-the-Sea and the surrounding area with the remaining funds being available to the wider North Norfolk area.
Application deadline:
1st November 2010

First grants awarded by
Sheringham Shoal Community Fund
The first grants have been awarded by the Sheringham Shoal Community Fund and will assist three local community groups in their environmental endeavours.
The Mason Trust, organisers of the Climate Run being held at Holkham Estate in September, will receive funds to help stage the event for young people which aims to raise awareness about the impact of climate change in Norfolk and other parts of the world.
Funds have also been approved for the Norfolk Ornithologists Association to help with analysis of birdwatching data gathered over the past five years as part of a seabird monitoring scheme covering bird sightings and a range of other factors such as flight direction, wind, tide and time of day.
Finally Unity Wind Ltd, a cooperative non-profit venture, will receive a grant towards undertaking a traffic and noise survey that is needed before they can apply for planning permission for a proposed community wind farm in North Walsham.
The next round of grants will be awarded later in the year with applications open from September 1 and awards granted in December.
The Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is owned equally by Statoil and Statkraft through the joint venture company Scira Offshore Energy Limited. Statoil is the operator for the project during the development phase. Scira will be the operator of the wind farm.
