Dozens of groups have the chance to benefit from a slice of £50,000 as the Norfolk Community Foundation joins forces with the Norwich Evening News and Sport Relief to distribute grants to groups making a difference to their local communities.
About Sport Relief Community Cash
Grants of between £500 and £1000 are available to community groups and clubs in the Norwich area.
Who can apply:
Constituted voluntary and community groups, registered charities and social enterprises benefitting the Norwich area can apply.
Applicants must:
- Be based in Norwich
- Have a constitution
- Have a management committee of least 3 people
- Have a bank account requiring min. 2 unrelated cheque signatories to authorise payments
- Have relevant policies and safeguarding including equal opportunities, CRB checks, and child protection/ vulnerable persons policies
- Have an annual income of less than £100,000
- Be run by local people, to benefit local communities
Established groups, and groups that have been established for less than 12 months are eligible to apply.
Local offices of national charities will only be supported if they have their own management committee, governing documents and bank account.
Groups who received a grant from Red Nose Day Community Cash in 2011 are eligible to apply providing they have completed monitoring requirements to date satisfactorily.
What sort of projects can be funded:
The Sport Relief Community Cash scheme prioritises applications that aim to make a positive difference to the lives of local people or communities who experience disadvantage or exclusion of any kind in the Norwich city area. This may include poor access to facilities and services, health, age, mental or physical disability, unemployment or low income, or isolation.
Sport Relief Community Cash can offer grants towards running costs, purchase of equipment and materials and activity costs. Examples of eligible groups include parent and toddler groups, lunch clubs, youth and older people’s groups, community festivals and groups which help befriend the elderly.
Exclusions:
Groups already in receipt of any Comic Relief funding other than Red Nose Day Community Cash are not eligible to apply.
Grants will not be awarded to support:
- Overseas travel/ activities
- Buses/ mini buses or other community transport schemes (though travel costs will be considered as part of a project)
- Building works, including access adaptations to premises
- Academic/ medical research or equipment
- Retrospective funding requests (to support activities that have already taken place)
Awards will not be made to individuals, statutory organisations (such as schools, or Primary Care Trusts), commercial or for-profit organisations, other grant making bodies or groups that are not constituted.

Once you have completed the form, you will have the opportunity to check it through and submit. You will receive a confirmation email including a copy of your application (Part A) and a Part B form – both of these, as well as the supporting evidence required, need to be completed and returned to Norfolk Community Foundation to complete the application process.
